Builders St. Germain, WI
Take a look at this photo. Notice the frost on the roof is an even thickness throughout the entire roof? The morning of this photo the low was 30 degrees. At the time of the it was 34 degrees.
This is a perfect time to determine if your building has heat loss. If there isn’t am even amount of frost on your entire roof and some areas of frost are already melted, it physically shows you where you are losing heat. Which means paying more in heating bills.
Many times the fix for this is very reasonable for cost. Especially if you have a conventional attic.

The neat thing about this picture is that their are no windows in this room and yet natural lighting. There isn’t a single light on, only two solar tubes bringing light in from the outside through the attic. Pretty cool isn’t it? Testimonials

It is one thing to need a new roof; it is another to get a roof that lessens our heat loss by 25%. North Twin Builders knowledge of building science helped us do just that. They came highly recommended and I know exactly why. The attention to detail, workmanship, and quality are unsurpassed. We will be working with them for years to come as we remodel and add onto our older home, I look forward to it!
~Nick & Laura

John, Rae Ann and their team at NTB do an absolutely excellent job. They built a moderately large timber frame home in Eagle River for us starting in 2008. We are very pleased with every aspect of the planning, construction and follow up. The construction is very high quality, with great attention to detail. John added a number of nice design ideas to our original plans. We recommend NTB with enthusiasm, and without any reservations.
~Mike & Gayle

John Volkmann and his team at North Twin Builders recently completed a covered front porch addition to our home. Working under some fairly tight time constraints (requested by us) and facing inclement fall weather, the crew still managed to complete the project quickly and within budget parameters. From the initial on-site design consultation through the last day and completion of the project John and his crew did a wonderful job, always exhibiting a great deal of professionalism and commitment to quality and detail. The crew was obviously pleased with the end result, as well they should have been. We were / are too! We highly recommend North Twin Builders for new or remodel construction work of any type, we have seen many of their completed projects here in the Northwoods, and each and every one brings to mind one simple word: “WOW”.
~John & Tracey

North Twin Builders has done two remodeling jobs for us. They listened and understood what we wanted and had creative and practical solutions for improving the functionality, energy efficiency, and aesthetics of our home. The work was done with care and expertise, and everyone from North Twin Builders was helpful, reliable and friendly throughout the whole process. We look forward to working with them in the future.
~Bob and Mary Kay

After servicing North Twin Builders for over 35 years we have found them to be very knowledgeable, well organized company with excellent employees. The working relation between our two companies is professional yet more than just a business. We hope to be able to service their account for many more years.
~Boone’s Building Supply Inc.

North Twin built a boathouse, greatroom addition, garage addition, and is currently working on a complete remodel of my house in northern WI. Their work and attention to detail is second to none, and John Volkmann is as honest as they come. Great crew, great staff, I could not be happier. I actually work in Canada, so having a contractor I can trust being so far away is huge to me, and North Twin delivers.
~Chris

North Twin went above and beyond all our expectation. Our prior experiences with builders left us skeptical, but North Twin delivered on all commitments, kept us well informed of progress, gave us timely advice to make design improvements and brought our dream to life. This is one of a few businesses that I can give an unqualified recommendation.
~Mike and Trudy

John Volkmann is synonymous with sterling stamped on silver! We chose John Volkmann (North Twin Builders) to raze our old family lakeside cottage and erect a new three bedroom home. He willingly worked with our design, making thoughtful suggestions and improvements. From the initial design stage, through the construction process, to the final inspection, everything progressed in perfect synchronization and harmony because John did his homework. There were no ugly surprises, no do-overs or cost over-runs, no ugly errors, no long waits for supplies or subcontractors – just a smooth problem free operation from start to finish. He used a time and materials contract and because of the expertise and professionalism of John and his crew, we came in well under the original cost estimate. The work was completed within the time frame established. Regardless of the magnitude of the project, we highly recommend John Volkmann (North Twin Builders).
~William and Karen

A few years ago we started looking for a builder to create a new cottage, that felt like an old cottage, on land that had been in my wife’s family since the mid-1920s. Our search and interview process produced many rave recommendations for North Twin Builders. The sources were right. We got a unique and extraordinary work product. The craftsmen that built our home were exceptionally skilled. Most importantly, John Volkmann proved to be a man of unparalleled integrity – straight forward in guiding you through the process with thoughtful suggestions, complete honesty in billing practices, and a careful listener about what we were trying to achieve. You couldn’t find a better partner for an important project. Several years have elapsed since our cottage was completed and we remain completely satisfied – and my wife and I think we’re pretty tough customers.

How To Pick a Contractor? Part 2

Assessing Your Building Plans or Home

Who determines the definition of a “quality” home?

This is the basic question, isn’t it? Is it the homeowner, contractor, state code inspector, independent consultants, suppliers, or the subcontractors who determine what makes a quality home? In reality, all of these professionals working together with you will produce a high-quality home. Failures in any one of these areas start to reduce the probability of a quality home. So, you need to find a team of qualified professionals to create the home of your dreams. Choosing a contractor with an established network of professionals with a commitment to quality is the key to your success.

Ask about testing, tools, and quality control before you begin.

Do your contractors test the houses they build for performance when they are finished? Do they have any documentation on how past homes that they have built performed when tested? What tools do they have to perform these tests on your home? Can they show you the benefits? Can they determine where potential heat losses may be? What measures do they take to assure quality control? Are they willing to hire outside professionals to come in and evaluate the home to prove it is worthy of their claims?

If you have concerns, hire a home performance consultant.

If you have concerns about your current home or want an independent third party to evaluate the construction of your new home. They will have the testing equipment to test your home, no matter what its age, and can help to reduce your future energy costs. For some upfront cost now, you can potentially save hundreds of dollars on future energy bills. Go towww.focusonenergy.com for more information.

No matter if your home is old, new, or yet to be built, there may be additional things that can be done to improve your comfort and safety. Even if your builder did a great job, in as little as a few years there could be ways to upgrade important aspects of your home. Technology is changing so quickly in almost every area of home construction that new methods and approaches can make a world of difference.

And this is where North Twin Builders can provide assistance, because
